MAHWAH, N.J. – April 19, 2013 – On Sunday, May 19, runners and casual walkers of all ages and skill levels are invited to participate in the YWCA Bergen County‘s third annual 5K Run and Family Walk. Proceeds from this fundraising event will help fund scholarships for the YWCA’s child care programs and summer camps as well as its healingSPACE Sexual Violence Resource Center, Bergen County’s only provider of a 24/7 hotline for victims of sexual violence. This exciting day of fitness, fun and family activities takes place rain or shine at Darlington County Park, located at 600 Darlington Ave. in Mahwah, N.J.
Run/walk participants will traverse a challenging USA Track & Field-certified 5K course at the foothills of the picturesque Ramapo Mountains. Race day activities begin with registration at 9 a.m., followed by the 5K start at 9:30 a.m. and the family walk at 10 a.m. The day’s highlights will include an outdoor family fun area with bounce houses, face painting and music; food and beverages; and the YWCA’s first-annual Duck Derby. Visitors can also tour Camp Ma-Kee-Ya, one of the YWCA’s three summer camps for 5-to-12-year-olds, which is located on the shores of Darlington’s Upper Lake.
Pre-registration for the 5K is $25 per person which includes the race entrance fee, an official event t-shirt, and access to the family fun/food and beverage area. Each runner will receive an electronic chip to track his or her time. Registration for the family fun walk is $25 per walker or $35 for up to five family members. Walkers will also receive an official event t-shirt and access to the family fun/food and beverage area. Strollers are permitted on the family fun walk.
