HACKENSACK, N.J., Sept. 19, 2012 – On Saturday, Oct. 13, runners and walkers of all ages and skill levels are invited to participate in the YWCA Bergen County‘s second annual Swim Skills = Skills for Life 5K Run/Walk. Proceeds from this fundraising event will support the YWCA’s “Make a Splash” program, the USA Swimming Foundation’s water safety initiative, which provides free swim lessons for underserved children. United Water is sponsoring this year’s event, which takes place at its 200 Old Hook Road headquarters in Harrington Park, N.J.
Run/walk participants will traverse United Water’s private trails surrounding the scenic Oradell Reservoir, one of the area’s most beautiful natural settings. Race day activities begin with registration at 8:30 a.m., followed by a pre-race warm-up at 9 a.m. and the event start at 9:30 a.m. The day’s highlights will include a kid’s walk/run for younger racers, along with food, prizes, goody bags and music provided by radio station WPLJ. The rain date is Sunday, Oct. 14.
Pre-registration for participants, available through Oct. 11, is $20 for adults ages 21 and older, $15 for students ages 12 and up, and $5 for children under age 11. Race-day registration is $25 for adults, $20 for students and $10 for children. To pre-register, visit www.5krunwalk.eventbrite.com.
