New Specialty Initiative Aims to Meet Area Demand
NORRISTOWN, Pa. (June 3, 2025) – Markley Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center in Norristown has launched a Pulmonary Care program under the direction of pulmonologist Dr. Aloknath Pandya. The 121-bed skilled nursing facility provides short-term rehab, long-term care and post-hospital care; this new offering builds on its specialized clinical programming catered to regional demand.
Markley’s Pulmonary Care services aim to reduce pulmonary symptoms, decrease disability, increase participation in physical and social activities, and promote independence and quality of life. The initiative is designed for individuals with a range of diagnoses and conditions.
Markley is supported by Marquis Health Consulting Services, an administrative consulting services provider. “Markley’s pulmonary rehab services are tailored to the individual needs of each patient with a chronic lung condition, with the goal to make breathing easier, improve well-being and truly transform their lives,” said Marquis’ Erin Popelak, regional director of market development.
Dr. Pandya is board certified in pulmonology. He completed his Pulmonary and Critical Care Fellowship at Temple University Hospital and is the founder of Spiromedics, a mobile pulmonary consultation service geared toward skilled nursing and long-term care facilities. “Dr. Pandya has extensive experience with the geriatric population and is highly regarded for his pulmonary expertise and caring manner,” noted Popelak.
In addition to consults with Dr. Pandya, Markley pulmonary patients benefit from the support of a full-time respiratory therapist, non-invasive ventilation support and 24/7 access to lab and radiology services. An extensive range of therapy services is available seven days per week.
Markley is undergoing an extensive multi-phase renovation and modernization. To date, the center has opened a new, 2,737-square-foot rehab therapy gym featuring state-of-the-art equipment. The gym’s spacious activities of daily living (ADL) suite mimics a home environment – enabling patients the opportunity to regain skills before returning home. In tandem, Markley introduced Physiatry services – also known as physical medicine and rehabilitation (PM&R) services – under the direction of Richard Rosenstein, DO. Physiatry services blend pain treatments and physical therapy with the goal to help patients avoid surgery. Phase 2 of the renovation program is now underway at the center.
Located at 550 E. Fornance St., Markley maintains a Five-Star Quality Measures rating from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). It has earned a prestigious accreditation from The Joint Commission, the nation’s oldest and largest standards-setting and accrediting body in healthcare.
