Local Nursing Home Donates Replacement Wheelchair

LANCASTER, Va. (Sept. 17, 2026) – Lancaster High School started the new school year with only one working wheelchair, its second broken and out of commission. It now has a brand-new model, donated by local skilled nursing center Lancashire Post Acute.

“This generous donation demonstrates the important role community partnerships play in meeting the needs of students and supporting schools,” said Lindsey Smith, assistant principal at the school. “We are grateful to Lancashire Post Acute for recognizing a need and responding with kindness and generosity. Together, schools and community partners can make a meaningful difference for students.”

Located at 187 School Street in Kilmarnock, Va., Lancashire Post Acute provides post-hospital care, short-term rehab and long-term residential care. “This is a tight-knit community – one that crosses generations, from school-age to senior residents,” said Amy Payne, Lancashire Post Acute’s administrator. “When we learned that the high school was in need of this important equipment, we were proud to help.”

Part of the Virginia Health Services (VHS) portfolio, Lancashire Post Acute benefits from the support of Marquis Health Consulting Services. The center maintains a Five-Star Quality Measures rating from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and a Four-Star Overall CMS rating.
