South Orange Reform Synagogue’s Hebrew High Combines Education with Community Building Activities
SOUTH ORANGE, N.J., Mar. 14, 2016 – The eighth-grade class at Temple Sharey Tefilo-Israel’s Hebrew High School got into the Purim spirit by baking hamantaschen, the filled-pocket pastry associated with the Jewish holiday which falls this year on March 24. Hamantaschen refer to the tri-cornered hat worn by the evil minister, Haman, a prominent character in the Book of Esther on which Purim is based. Lila Zinner (left) and Carly Lerman (center) from South Orange and Ellie Betheil (right) from Maplewood show off some of their home-baked handiwork in the South Orange synagogue’s kitchen. Temple Sharey Tefilo-Israel’s thriving Hebrew High program combines Jewish education with community building activities for students in grades 8-12.
