Public is Invited to Informative and Entertaining Events Including Rabbi-Led Discussion on Social Issues and Foreign Film Screening

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J., Feb. 19, 2014 – Area residents interested in discussing current affairs or enjoying foreign films are invited to attend Temple Sharey Tefilo-Israel’s (TSTI) upcoming adult education programs. - Mon., Feb. 24 – Insights and IPAs: Rabbi Daniel Cohen will lead this off-site informal learning session that combines socializing with social issues at 7 p.m. at SuzyQue’s BBQ, 34 South Valley Road in West Orange. Rabbi Cohen will frame the discussion by sharing how Jewish values and laws inform the public’s thoughts about current affairs; topics will reflect the hot-button issues of today. $10 for TSTI members, $15 for non-members.
- Sat., March 8 – Saturday Night Film: “The Other Son”: A wine and cheese reception begins at 7 p.m., followed by the 7:30 p.m. screening of this French film, which explores the consequences of a familiar literary motif: two babies who are accidentally switched at birth. In this case, one is an Israeli Jew, the other a Palestinian Muslim. Eric Goldman, President of Ergo Media, will lead a discussion following the film. The cost is $5 for TSTI members, $10 for non-members. Advance registration is required by February 28.
- Fri., March 28 – Shabbat Scholar and Supper Series: Alan Elsner will speak on “American-Jews and Israel” at 6 p.m. Elsner is vice president for communications at J Street and enjoyed a long career in American and international journalism prior to joining the organization. He will start his remarks during the evening worship service and continue during dinner immediately following. Pre-registration is required for the dinner. Cost is $25 for TSTI members, $36 for non-members.
