South Orange Synagogue will continue Popular Film Series with “Felix & Meira,” Host Class on Archeology and Biblical Text
SOUTH ORANGE, N.J., Feb. 24, 2016 – Foreign film fans and archeology buffs are invited to Temple Sharey Tefilo-Israel (TSTI) in South Orange for two events in March that are open to the public.
Sat., March 5 – TSTI’s popular film series with renowned film scholar Dr. Eric Goldman continues with a screening of “Felix & Meira.” Attendees will enjoy a wine and cheese reception at 7 p.m. and the movie will start promptly at 7:30. The film, directed by Maxime Giroux, tells the story of a young married woman from Montreal’s Hasidic community who finds freedom from the strictures of her faith through her relationship with a young man from a very different world. Following the film, Goldman, a scholar on Israeli, Jewish and Yiddish film, will lead a discussion on its themes. The cost is $10 for non-members, $5 for TSTI members. Wed., March 9 – Rabbi Daniel Cohen will lead an adult education class titled “Archeology, Text and Jewish History” at 7 p.m. Questions he will explore include: What do archeological finds in the Holy Land say about our ancestors’ earliest history? Do Jewish sacred texts agree with the physical evidence unearthed—and if not, what and where are the gaps? There is no cost to attend the program but an RSVP is required.
