TSTI Hosts Insightful and Timely Lecture on the Future of American Judaism by Rabbi Donniel Hartman
SOUTH ORANGE, Nov. 29, 2016 – Temple Sharey Tefilo-Israel (TSTI) in South Orange, in partnership with the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) and area synagogues, hosted an evening with Rabbi Donniel Hartman (right), who discussed “Judaism in the 21st Century” on November 10, 2016. Hartman spoke about some of the challenges that will affect the Israeli-American relationship in the years to come, in part due to the changing nature of American Jewish identity. He encouraged attendees to be cognizant of these changes and to proactively create space with children for dialogue about Israel. Attendees were also encouraged to attend the AIPAC policy conference in Washington, D.C. in March 2017. With Hartman is Rabbi Daniel Cohen of TSTI, who is active in AIPAC and will lead the congregation on a trip to Israel in December.
Hartman is president of the Shalom Hartman Institute, author of “Putting God Second: How to Save Religion from Itself,” and a prominent essayist, blogger, and lecturer about Israeli politics, policy, Judaism, and the Jewish community. He has founded some of the most extensive education, training and enrichment programs for scholars, educators, rabbis, and religious and lay leaders in Israel and North America. His lecture is one of many such thought-provoking programs sponsored or hosted by TSTI throughout the year.
