SOUTH ORANGE, N.J., Nov. 3, 2014 – Temple Sharey Tefilo-Israel (TSTI) in South Orange will hold its annual turkey, food and winter clothing drive on Sun., Nov. 23 from 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. The congregation is collecting frozen turkeys, holiday dinner fixings such as cranberry sauce, canned sweet potatoes and stuffing mix, as well as canned goods. Area residents are also asked to donate new or gently used winter coats, boots, scarves, gloves and hats for men, women and children. The collection site will be located in the synagogue's parking lot at 432 Scotland Road. Donated items will be distributed to an expected 300 clients of the Interfaith Food Pantry of the Oranges (IFPO), located in nearby Orange, on the day before Thanksgiving to ensure that individuals and families are able to celebrate the holiday. For more information, call (973) 763-4116 or visit http://www.tsti.org/.

November food drives are a twenty-year tradition at TSTI, which initially served as a collection site for the Community FoodBank of New Jersey. As one of four constituent houses of worship that support the IFPO, the congregation chose to direct its turkey collection to that non-profit several years ago and expanded the drive to include winter clothing. Members of TSTI also volunteer monthly at the food pantry to prepare and distribute packages of staples. The IFPO provides supplemental and emergency food to low-income residents of Orange and East Orange, serving families and individuals, children and the elderly, the disabled, veterans, immigrants and the working poor.
