Musician and Educator will Lead “Light Up Shabbat” Service at Reform Synagogue

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J., Mar. 11, 2015 – Singer songwriter Sheldon Low, who performs widely for youth audiences and Jewish communities throughout North America, will lead the community in prayer and song at Temple Sharey Tefilo-Israel (TSTI) on Friday, March 27 at 6 p.m. Under the direction of Cantor Rebecca Moses, the TSTI congregation has been learning some of Low’s melodies as a lead-up to his residency. The family-friendly service is open to the public.

“His music is exactly what you want in modern Jewish music,” said Moses. “It has a lot of heart and it’s a lot of fun. We’ve been learning his music all year and look forward to him leading us in his beautiful and moving songs.” Low’s residency is part of TSTI’s tradition of hosting leading Jewish musicians for a weekend every year. He will perform a concert for the temple’s Religious school students on Sunday.

During the service, Low will teach a few new tunes to congregants with his trademark easygoing, catchy style that appeals to young and old. A Jewish educator in addition to recording and performing, Low will include a short teaching in the service. He is a founding faculty member of Songleader Bootcamp and started Hallelu Records, an independent Jewish record label, in 2013.
