Reform Temple Holds Two Events to Mark Milestone
SOUTH ORANGE, N.J., June 11, 2018 – The members and clergy of Temple Sharey Tefilo-Israel (TSTI), the Reform synagogue in South Orange, recently celebrated Rabbi Daniel Cohen’s 25th anniversary in the rabbinate, during which he has continuously served the congregation, at a festive gala at Maplewood Country Club and an informal party at the synagogue.
On Thursday, May 31, approximately 300 people attended the gala along with some of Cohen’s family members and close friends. Remarks about his many contributions to the TSTI community were given by outgoing board president Sue Wishnow and Cantor Emeritus Ted Aronson, who was the cantor during Cohen’s rabbinic internship and for many subsequent years. Cantors Rebecca Moses and Joan Finn, and Rabbi Alexandra Klein performed musical selections that included a touching tribute to Cohen as well as a musical parody that added a lighthearted touch to the evening. Cohen stepped to the lectern to deliver words of gratitude and motivation, looking ahead to the future. In his honor, the TSTI Rabbinic Leadership Endowment has been established to enable TSTI to continue its tradition of leadership excellence and to be a home for the Reform movement’s most talented clergy.
On Saturday evening, June 2, the community gathered at TSTI for fun and entertainment with a Havdalah barbeque and another chance to celebrate together. To see photos from both events, visit www.tsti.org.
