- Wed., March 7 – Rabbi Daniel Cohen will teach “Social Justice in Focus, Part II: Civil Rights” at 12:00 p.m.; this session will focus on criminal justice reform. Participants will examine the historical Jewish stances on this issue through examination of traditional Jewish sources and debate how they might or might not be applicable today. Cohen will also share more recent positions taken by the Reform movement and how the national Reform leadership continues to advocate for a more equitable criminal justice system in the US. A light lunch will be served, followed by the program. Pre-registration by March 5 is required, available online at http://bit.ly/2CmvQCB.
- Tues., March 13, 20, 27 – Anne Sussman, a certified meditation instructor, will facilitate “Wise Aging” every Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. This series of 90-minute small-group experiences will explore the topic of aging within a Jewish spiritual context. Attendees will study texts and share ideas in an open and safe environment, and learn techniques to help cultivate a daily spiritual practice through meditation. The book, “Wise Aging” by Rabbi Rachel Cowan and Dr. Linda Thal, will be used; it is available for purchase on Amazon.com. Registrants must register for and commit to attending all sessions. The fee is $18 for the entire series, which runs through May; the fee will be donated to the Interfaith Food Pantry of the Oranges. - Thurs., March 1 & 15 – Beth Sandweiss facilitates a bi-weekly mindfulness meditation and chant group at 9:30 a.m. Sandweiss uses Hebrew chant, breath and awareness exercises to relax the mind, open the heart and bring attention to the present. Walk-ins are welcome.
- Sat., March 24 – MetroWest shaliach Michael Levi and other Israeli emissaries will share a taste of Israeli diversity through charoset, a staple of the Passover Seder at “Charoset, Havdalah and Israeli Wine” at 7:00 p.m. Participants will make and taste authentic charoset from the representatives’ family Seder tables and explore how their specific recipe tells the story of Passover traditions in Israeli society.
