Artist Elizabeth Yaari Leads 3rd and 7th Grade Students in Art Workshop and Bibliodrama

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J., April 23, 2019 – Religious school students at Temple Sharey Tefilo-Israel (TSTI) in South Orange interpreted the Passover story through different media when artist Elizabeth Yaari led them on a creative journey. In the third grade, students and their families (left) used bibliodrama to act out the Passover story, after which they created unique, hand-painted silk matzah covers. Seventh-grade students also acted out the experience of the Hebrew slaves in Egypt, followed by their freedom and building of the Mishkan (the “Tent of the Congregation” or portable sanctuary the ancient Israelites carried with them during the Exodus). Each student created a visual interpretation of the special gifts they would bring to build a new community of Israelites.

TSTI, located at 432 Scotland Road, offers a religious school curriculum that balances interactive, teacher-directed and student-driven activities and discussions, and incorporates experiential learning in creative ways. For more information, visit www.tsti.org/religious-school.
